A printer's optical drive is a device that allows users to access the contents of digital optical discs, such as CDs and DVDs, and transfer data to or from the printer. The optical drive generally interfaces with the printer's components via a USB, FireWire, or Serial Port connection. Unlike most traditional computer optical drives, a printer's optical drive typically can only read discs, meaning that it cannot burn or write new discs.
