Most offices have one or more shared printers for use by all of the people in the office. A shared printer does not require a computer or host, as the printer can be connected directly to the office network. It is generally very easy to setup, as the printer can be connected using a normal network cable, and usually has a web-based setup page which can be accessed through a browser to configure the printer, such as setting the IP address, setting print quality, printing formats, speed and any other settings.
Once setup, the printer is then ready to be used by all people in the office, and can be accessed via the network with all computers in the office, either through a printer driver or with a web interface. Documents can then be printed as normal, either from a computer or uploaded via the web interface. The printer can also be monitored for ink levels, and for general maintenance, such as cleaning and replacing parts which are worn out.
