There are a few common steps to follow when trying to troubleshoot a printer that is shared with multiple users.
1. Make sure the printer is properly connected to the computer and the power source. Ensure that the printer is switched on, and that all cables are securely connected.
2. Restart the computer and the printer. In some cases, restarting the devices can help reset the connection and/or eliminate any temporary trouble spots.
3. Check to make sure that the printer is shared properly. Ensure that the printer is enabled to be shared, and double-check the printer’s name to make sure it is exactly the same on each computer that is accessing it.
4. Try printing a test page from each computer. This can help you determine whether or not the printer is able to communicate with the computers properly.
5. Check the queue of the printer. In some cases, the printer might be busy with a large number of print jobs. If this is the case, manually delete any unnecessary print jobs, to help free up space.
6. Reinstall the printer driver. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the driver on each computer, to eliminate any software conflicts.
7. Contact the printer manufacturer or your IT department. If none of the steps listed above have been successful in resolving the issue, contact the printer’s technical support.
