The sharing of printers through the internet has become a very popular and convenient way for people to make use of their devices. This is especially true for businesses and organizations that need to share multiple printers amongst employees and colleagues. With the advancements made in networking technology, setting up an internet-based printer sharing system is now a relatively easy task.
The first step in setting up printer sharing over the internet is to ensure that the printer is connected to a network router with built-in DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) capabilities. This will enable other computers to access the printer over the internet. Additionally, the printer must be installed on each computer that will be using it, so that different programs can access the printer's functionality.
The next step is to set up the printing server. This can either be done via a custom computer attached to the printer, or by using a dedicated printer server that is available on the market. The chosen server must also be connected to the network router, with DHCP enabled.
Once the server has been installed, users must set up “access points” for the printer on the network. These points allow other people to access the printer from their own computers. Access points can be set up by using a web-based control panel for the server, or the IP address of the printer can be manually entered into the computers of people who will be using it.
Once the access points have been set up, people should be able to access the printer from any computer on the network. Depending on the specific type of printers and servers being used, there may be additional settings that need to be configured to enable the sharing of documents. Once the settings have been correctly enabled, people should be able to share documents with their colleagues simply by selecting the networked printer when printing.
